1git-cvsimport-script(1) 2======================= 3v0.1, July 2005 4 5NAME 6---- 7git-cvsimport-script - Import a CVS repository into git 8 9 10SYNOPSIS 11-------- 12'git-cvsimport-script' [ -o <branch-for-HEAD> ] [ -h ] [ -v ] 13 [ -d <CVSROOT> ] [ -p <options-for-cvsps> ] 14 [ -C <GIT_repository> ] [ <CVS_module> ] 15 16 17DESCRIPTION 18----------- 19Imports a CVS repository into git. It will either create a new 20repository, or incrementally import into an existing one. 21 22Splitting the CVS log into patch sets is done by 'cvsps'. 23At least version 2.1 is required. 24 25OPTIONS 26------- 27-d <CVSROOT>:: 28 The root of the CVS archive. May be local (a simple path) or remote; 29 currently, only the :local:, :ext: and :pserver: access methods 30 are supported. 31 32-o <branch-for-HEAD>:: 33 The 'HEAD' branch from CVS is imported to the 'origin' branch within 34 the git repository, as 'HEAD' already has a special meaning for git. 35 Use this option if you want to import into a different branch. 36 37 Use '-o master' for continuing an import that was initially done by 38 the old cvs2git tool. 39 40-p <options-for-cvsps>:: 41 Additional options for cvsps. 42 The options '-x' and '-A' are implicit and should not be used here. 43 44 If you need to pass multiple options, separate them with a comma. 45 46-v:: 47 Verbosity: let 'cvsimport' report what it is doing. 48 49<CVS_module>:: 50 The CVS module you want to import. Relative to <CVSROOT>. 51 52-h:: 53 Print a short usage message and exit. 54 55OUTPUT 56------ 57If '-v' is specified, the script reports what it is doing. 58 59Otherwise, success is indicated the Unix way, i.e. by simply exiting with 60a zero exit status. 61 62 63Author 64------ 65Written by Matthias Urlichs <smurf@smurf.noris.de>, with help from 66various participants of the git-list <git@vger.kernel.org>. 67 68Documentation 69-------------- 70Documentation by Matthias Urlichs <smurf@smurf.noris.de>. 71 72GIT 73--- 74Part of the link:git.html[git] suite 75
